The Yale-China Association, a non-profit organization that promotes U.S.-China educational exchange, seeks candidates for the position of program officer for law programs to be based either at its headquarters in New Haven, Connecticut, or its China office in Hong Kong.

The Program Officer for Law Programs will direct the Yale-China Association’s Law
Fellows Program and other initiatives related to legal education and rule of law in China.

This will include:

1. Overseeing the selection, orientation, and placement of Yale-China Law Fellows at Chinese law schools;
2. Working directly with Chinese partner institutions to coordinate each Fellows' placement;
3. Working closely with a board of advisers;
4. Working closely with Law Fellows, and faculty at Hunan University in Changsha, to plan an annual law conference at Hunan University to which faculty from other Chinese law schools and the U.S. would be invited;
5. Developing additional program initiatives;
6. Preparing reports to program donors and articles about the program for publication;
7. Working with other staff members on fundraising efforts for possible program expansion, including preparing grant proposals and meeting with potential private donors and grant makers.

The ideal candidate will have:
• a J.D. from a U.S law school. Experience with clinical legal education and/or public interest law would be a strong plus
• familiarity with the U.S. and Chinese legal systems
• excellent oral and written English and Chinese
• previous China-related work experience
• experience in the areas of international exchange, program management, and budget preparation
• strong interpersonal and intercultural skills
• readiness to travel to China when necessary
• a demonstrated commitment to service
• excellent administrative skills
