Mild Depression

So let me get this straight. On the one hand, you’ve got a presidential candidate in the U.S. chastising another for not executing enough people when he was a governor, and here in China they are reforming the death penalty process and taking a hard look at methods of execution.

Now we’ve got a story today about the proposed universal health care plan that might be in the works here. The BBC is comparing the plan to the NHS. Whether it is or not, and whether it is even feasible or not, is beside the point - that it is being worked up as a serious policy alternative at all is the story.

In the U.S., even Hillary Clinton is too scared to talk about an NHS-style system for fear that some moderate Democrats out there will call her a Socialist.

I’m not sure I can handle an entire presidential campaign. As things get wackier in the U.S. this year, China will be pulling out all the stops pre-Olympics to look all warm and fuzzy on the World Stage. By August, I am going to be extremely confused.
