Just when you think that things could not possibly get worse for the U.S. in Iraq, you get this (h/t to Ben Landy at China Redux):
Interesting report in the Washington Post today [actually a few days ago] disclosing that China is supplying Iraqi police forces with $100 million in light military equipment. It seems China has stepped in to fill a gap caused by America’s inability to produce/deliver fast enough to meet Iraqi demand for weapons and other materiel.
As usual, a rather deft move by China. Not only does it get to piss off the U.S. and make it look like it is unable to get the job done in Iraq, but since China is selling to Iraqi police forces (i.e. supporting the Iraqi government), I assume that it would be difficult for Washington to directly criticize the deal.
