If It’s A Joke, It’s Not Funny

Charlie decides to make everyone in Beijing feel sad:

I’m a bit tied up today, but feeling quite cheerful. Enjoyed a beautiful blue sky Sunday here in Shanghai and we’re having another nice day today.  The picture below was taken at noon–yes, that is real blue sky and real clouds.  I provide this picture to show those of you who may be reading the articles about the bad air in Beijing that China’s air quality is not consistently and uniformly bad.

I hope you're proud of yourself. Typical of someone from Shanghai to lord it over the rest of us.

"Look at my air – it's pristine and yummy. Try our baozhi – they've got soup in 'em. Enjoy our river – we've got a river." The whole thing makes me ill. At least I think I'm ill. I've had this cough and a pain in my chest for a couple years. It's a tenacious bug. Must be Shanghai's fault.

Sure, that's a beautiful picture of Shanghai on your site, Charlie. But what has it cost you? Alienating the 320 million residents (plus the 147 million migrant workers) of Beijing, that's what. Was it worth it?

[OK, yes, it has been a depressingly slow news day. It's also Monday and the sky is icky. And I'm guilty of disgustingly heavy sarcasm today. Someone call a cop.]
