Recently, health officials found a few dogs here that had been infected with swine flu. I haven't come across details on what strain of the flu it was, whether it was communicable to other species or anything, etc.
Three things. First, going by previous actions of paranoid public officials, I really worry about what might happen to dogs here. If more than a few dogs get the swine flu, it wouldn't surprise me if large-scale killing of our fluffy friends takes place.
Second, as I am a cat, not dog, owner, I also worry that if folks start going crazy with a pet pogrom, maybe cats will be next on the list. If that happens, I would feel obligated to get my cats the hell out of here. First they came for the Pekinese, and I did not speak out — because I was not a dog owner . . .
Third, I could not avoid talking about this issue without a cute visual.
