The Associate Director will have responsibility for day-to-day running of the program, teaching the Introduction to American Law course required of all foreign LLM students (with assistance and guidance from other law faculty), developing additional curricula for the program, and advising students in the program.  If mutually agreeable, in time the Associate Director may be given additional responsibilities for other international programs.  Essential qualifications include: a J.D. degree from a US law school, or its equivalent; experience as a practicing lawyer; demonstrated writing skill; and availability for periodic work-related travel to China.  Additional useful qualifications include: teaching experience, practice or other experience in China, an understanding of the Chinese legal system, language ability with Mandarin.  The Associate Director will have a 12-month contract starting July 1, 2007, which is renewable based on performance and success of the program. Salary and benefits will be competitive with other non-tenure track law school appointments.

The UMKC School of Law was founded more than 100 years ago and is located in a beautiful area of Kansas City, a diverse metropolitan area of more than 1.8 million people with an outstanding quality of life.  The School is an urban public law school with a commitment to teaching and students that gives it the feel of a small liberal arts college.  It has had a summer program in China in partnership with Peking University since 1999, and the University has relationships with a number of Chinese universities.  Kansas City, the birth place of Edgar Snow, has a sister city relationship with Xi’an.  The Chinese government recently established one of its “Confucius Centers” in the metropolitan area.

The position will be open until filled, but review of applications will begin on April 16, 2007.  Nominations and applications should be sent to:
