U.S. Currency Bill Postscript

Just for the record, the U.S. Senate bill that would punish China on the value of the RMB passed easily on Tuesday. I’ve consistently said that this is all political theater and that not only do all of the politicians involved know that this bill will never become law, but also that many of the bill’s “supporters” don’t want it to happen anyway. It’s easy to vote against the Big Bad China when you know that your vote doesn’t count (because the House will not pass it).

That being said, this latest little stunt has garnered a great deal of media attention, both in the U.S. and China, so perhaps in the end, media whores/supporters got what they were really after all along.
