The Environmental Protection Department recorded 23 pollution convictions in May.

Five were for air pollution, nine were for noise, one was under the ozone layer protection ordinance, and eight were for improper waste disposal.

The month’s heaviest fine – $18,000 – was imposed for carrying out prescribed construction work in a designated area without a valid construction noise permit.
