The Police will run a week-long pedestrian road-safety campaign from tomorrow, to reduce traffic accidents involving pedestrians, in particular seniors.
There were 1,540 pedestrian casualties in traffic accidents between January and May this year. Of the 28 people killed, 20 were aged 60 or above, according to Police.
Compared with the same period in 2011, there was a decrease of 47 pedestrian casualties and one more fatality.
Police will take stringent enforcement action and issue summonses against pedestrians who have jaywalked or committed other serious traffic offences.
