The Police have launched a five-day campaign to promote school transport safety to tie in with the start of the new school year.
In the first seven months of this year, 128 people aged 16 or below were injured in 25 traffic accidents involving school buses or nanny vans, compared to 61 injuries and 21 accidents in the same period last year.
During the campaign, police officers will distribute leaflets to school bus and nanny van drivers, teachers and parents to draw their attention to school children's transport safety.
Drivers will be reminded to use low gear and the ancillary braking system when driving along downhill slopes, and police officers will visit schools to deliver talks on school bus travelling safety.
