The Daily Twit – 9/4/12: OMG, Hillary’s Here! and Samsung’s Other Apple Problem
Aggregated Source: China Hearsay

The big news is Hillary’s visit and the ongoing fun and games in the South China Sea. Don’t draw the conclusion that something (good or bad) has actually happened. No, just lots of chatter about regional issues and US-China policy.

NBC News: Chinese media: ‘Many Chinese people dislike Hillary’ — Clinton’s Asia trip has a lot of folks talking about the South China Sea dispute and US policy, but at the end of the day, it’s just another diplomatic tour with (as yet) nothing really exciting to talk about. This article tries to make the best of it, but there’s nothing really going on.

The Daily Beast: China’s Troubled Waters: Hillary Clinton Visits Beijing — Melinda Liu with a whole lot of US Asia policy background.

Joe Nye: Asian Nationalism at Sea — Analysis and explanation of China’s South China Sea policy.

East Asia Forum: Japan and China will be fine… for now — If you tend to get somewhat depressed by the South China Sea dispute, this might help cheer you up.

Reuters: Tiny Pacific nations cash in on U.S.-China aid rivalry — Apparently the South China Sea kerfuffle isn’t bad news for everyone.

PC World: Samsung Finds Bad Management at Supplier in China, Launches More Audits — A familiar story, yes? And I have the feeling that none of this would be happening if not for Apple/Foxconn.

Brahma Chellaney: China’s Made-in-America Success Story — How U.S. policy facilitated China’s modern development, and why current policy is not as adversarial as it might seem. Nationalists in both China and the U.S. would probably hate this article — I enjoyed it.

Seeking Alpha: China Presents Big Opportunity For Hollywood — Not a new topic, but this discussion has lots of detail, including industry stats and information on the big players. Good reference.

China Daily: China helps bust US drug websites — A very minor operation, but these kinds of joint task forces, where US and China enforcement agencies work together, always make me feel a little bit better about bilateral relations.

Tea Leaf Nation: Translation: Chinese Writer Sarcastically Calls Americans “Foolish” For Being Honest, Generous — This parody is too blatant for my tastes, but it’s well done regardless. The writer must be auditioning for the China Daily Show. Speaking of which . . .

China Daily Show: Disappointment after venture capitalist survives Ferrari crash — Glad to see CDS is getting in on the Ferrari-related scandal news. Well, fake news. Uh, you know what I mean.
