A Mainland woman has been jailed after admitting she tried to dupe immigration officers into allowing her to enter Hong Kong by using a false medical certificate for her pregnancy.
The 26-year-old arrived at Hong Kong International Airport on August 29, and told immigration officers she was 28 weeks pregnant and intended to visit Hong Kong for sightseeing. She presented a medical certificate issued by a Mainland hospital stating she was 28 weeks pregnant.
Officers refused her entry, believing the document was false. She later reported she was sick, and was admitted to hospital. She gave birth on September 8.
She admitted she falsely declared she was 28 weeks pregnant and produced bogus medical proof.
She was sentenced by Sha Tin Magistracy to eight months' jail for a charge of possession of a false document, and another eight months for making a false representation, with both sentences to run concurrently.
