Warning issued on unsafe toy

The Customs & Excise Department today warned parents to watch out for potential hazards posed by a toy rattle.

Customs officers recently conducted spot checks on toy retailers in various districts. A number of toy samples were sent to the Government Laboratory for safety tests. The toy rattle has small parts which are detachable from the main body, and its handle is too small, posing a choking hazard to children.

During follow-up action, officers seized three of the toys from a local retailer in Kwun Tong. The department also served a prohibition notice to the retailer, stopping the supply of the unsafe toys.

The department advised parents to watch out for potential hazards when selecting toys for their children.

To report unsafe toys and children's products, call the Customs hotline, 2545 6182.
