Customs and Marine Police officers have seized 1,170kg of geoduck worth $410,000 in an anti-smuggling operation in Lau Fau Shan.

Officers spotted four men loading cartons onto two high-powered speedboats berthed at Lau Fau Shan Pier at about 11pm last night.

The officers intervened and the suspects fled in the speedboats. One left Hong Kong waters heading for Shekou on the Mainland, while the suspects on the other speedboat jumped overboard and fled after their vessel ran aground in shallow water off Lau Fau Shan.

The boat and 45 cartons of the clams were seized.
