Secretary for Security Lai Tung-kwok urges witnesses of the Lamma Island ferry tragedy to provide information to the Police.
Speaking to the media today, Mr Lai said the investigation into the tragedy has been difficult but smooth, adding more witnesses providing information can help investigators map out what happened during the incident.
Some of the ferry passengers, who were not injured, left after the incident. He urged them and others aboard other vessels in the vicinity to contact Police.
"Police have set up a hotline and requested witnesses to come forward to provide information. They have also set up a desk at the Lamma Island pier, because we believe that during the incident quite a number of Lamma residents were on board one of the vessels."
The Marine Department has formed a special investigation team. The Chief Executive also said that an inquiry commission will be established. The Police and Marine Department investigations will be its source of information.
The commission can summon witnesses to testify and ask the Government to provide information.
Mr Lai said finding witnesses, thoroughly searching the wreckage, and conducting laboratory tests are the priorities, to help the commission get comprehensive information.
