Police have arrested the 31-year-old driver of a medium goods vehicle after it struck and killed a woman who was crossing the road in North Point.

The accident happened at about 4.20pm as he was driving eastbound on Electric Road, near the junction with Merlin Street.

The woman, aged about 60 to 70, was certified dead at the scene.

The driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death.
