The appointment of the Commission of Inquiry into the Collision of Vessels near Lamma Island was published in the Gazette today. The Commission Secretariat has set up a website to disseminate information about the inquiry to the public, and easy communication with interested parties.

Commission Chairman Justice Michael Lunn and Commissioner Benjamin Tang inspected the Lamma IV vessel at the Government Dockyard on Stonecutters Island, and the Sea Smooth moored at the New Yau Ma Tei Typhoon Shelter, this afternoon. The vessels collided off Lamma Island on October 1 causing multiple deaths and injuries.

The commission was appointed by the Chief Executive in Council under the Commissions of Inquiry Ordinance on October 22, to inquire into the facts and circumstances leading to and surrounding the collision.

The commission will report its findings and recommendations to the Chief Executive in about six months.
