Kowloon City Magistracy has sentenced a merchant and a hawker to eight months and one year's jail for vote-rigging during the 2011 District Council Election, the Independent Commission Against Corruption said today.
On July 16, 2011, the defendants submitted to the Registration & Electoral Office their applications for registration as electors, and later voted at the election after giving information they knew to be materially false or misleading to the electoral officer.
The defendants stated a flat in a building at 25 Yin Chong Street, Mongkok, was their only or principal residential address, but the defendants had never resided there.
