Two people, aged 46 and 26, were each sentenced to three months' imprisonment by Kowloon City Magistracy today, for vote-rigging in the 2011 District Council Election.
Magistrate Peter Law said the custodial sentences were appropriate as vote-rigging is a very serious offence.
They submitted applications for registration as electors in the 2011 Yau Tsim Mong District Council Election (King's Park Constituency) on July 16 last year, stating that a flat in Foo Tat Building, Mong Kok, was their only or principal residential address.
But the occupant of the address confirmed the premises was being used for his business, and that he did not know the defendants.
They actually lived outside the constituency at that time.
They have been released on bail, pending appeals.
