The Customs & Excise Department today banned the supply of a dangerous folding chair and stool.
Acting on complaints, Customs officers sent samples of the products to the Government Laboratory for safety tests, with reference to the British standards for strength, durability and safety.
One of the metal legs on the chair was fractured and nearly detached from the supporting frame, with a loose joining screw. For the stool, the legs were seriously deformed with cracked joints. The products could cause falls and injure users.
Officers later seized from the chain 18 chairs and 42 stools. A prohibition notice was served prohibiting the supply of the two products. The investigation continues.
