Police today reclassified a March 19 dead body found case in Kwai Chung as murder-suicide.

 

At about 10.15pm on that day, Police received a report that someone was found dead in a flat in Kwai Fong Estate.

 

Police found a 38-year-old man and his 35-year-old wife dead in the bedroom with a basin of burnt charcoal.

 

An initial post-mortem examination today found suspicious injuries to the woman’s head and neck from a possible attack before her death. Further examinations will be conducted.

Customs officers have shut down an illicit cigarette telephone-ordering syndicate, arresting three people and seizing 1.3 million illicit cigarettes worth $3.3 million, and with a duty potential of $2.2 million.

 

They today raided a storehouse in a remote location in San Tin, which the syndicate used to store the cigarettes.

 

The gang used a vehicle to convey the cigarettes from the storehouse to a designated point for delivery to other syndicate vehicles for speedy distribution to buyers throughout the city.

 

The three men, aged 28 to 35, were arrested when they were transferring cigarettes from the storehouse to a van.

 

The public are urged to report suspected illicit cigarette activities on the Customs hotline 2545 6182.

Police and Department of Health officers arrested an 18-year-old woman for the illegal sale of unregistered pharmaceutical products at a Mong Kok shop today.

 

The shop was selling Counterpain Cool Analgesic Gel, labelled as containing menthol, and Counterpain Analgesic Balm, labelled as containing methyl salicylate, eugenol and menthol.

 

Both medicines are for the relief of muscle pain, and a common side effect is skin irritation.

 

Hong Kong pharmaceutical product registration numbers were not found, and the products were sourced outside Hong Kong.

 

Under the Pharmacy & Poisons Ordinance all pharmaceutical products must be registered with the Pharmacy & Poisons Board before they can be sold on the market.

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department has ordered two food factories, one in Sham Shui Po and another in Tsuen Wan, to suspend business for up to three weeks.

 

Their operators breached the Food Business Regulation by illegally extending the food business area.

 

Netsuwan, on Wong Chuk Street, Sham Shui Po, was ordered to close until April 4.

 

Fire King, on Tai Ho Road, Tsuen Wan, was ordered to close until April 11.

The Customs & Excise Department yesterday seized 160kg of illicit tobacco worth $600,000, and with a duty potential of $330,000, in an export consignment at the airport.

 

Officers inspected the consignment at the Hong Kong International Airport Super Terminal 1. It was declared as stainless steel accessories and was destined for the UK.

 

The tobacco, packed in tea tinfoil bags, was concealed in 10 stainless steel litter bins.

 

Anyone involved in or dealing with possession, selling and buying illicit cigarettes or tobacco commits an offence.

The Customs & Excise Department has arrested a 24-year-old man after finding 1kg of ketamine worth $120,000 strapped to his body.

 

Officers stopped him at Sha Tau Kok Control Point yesterday and found the drugs wrapped around his waist and legs.

 

He was charged with drug trafficking and will appear in Fanling Magistracy today.
