The Customs & Excise Department yesterday seized 160kg of illicit tobacco worth $600,000, and with a duty potential of $330,000, in an export consignment at the airport.

Officers inspected the consignment at the Hong Kong International Airport Super Terminal 1. It was declared as stainless steel accessories and was destined for the UK.

The tobacco, packed in tea tinfoil bags, was concealed in 10 stainless steel litter bins.

Anyone involved in or dealing with possession, selling and buying illicit cigarettes or tobacco commits an offence.
