Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen started his Singapore visit today, meeting with the Attorney-General Steven Chong and the Senior Minister of State of the Ministry of Law Indranee Rajah to discuss the direction of legal policy in both jurisdictions.

 

Mr Yuen visited the Maxwell Chambers, which provides alternative dispute resolution facilities and services in Singapore, and held talks with chambers chairman and chief executive Philip Jeyaretnam and Ban Jiun Ean.

 

Mr Yuen also met with Singapore International Arbitration Centre Chief Executive Officer Minn Naing Oo and exchanged views on the latest development of alternative dispute resolution in the international context.

 

He highlighted the Department of Justice's objective to enhance Hong Kong's status as a regional hub for legal services.

 

Mr Yuen met with the Dean of the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore, Prof Simon Chesterman; and the Dean of the School of Law, Singapore Management University, Prof Yeo Tiong Min to discuss the latest development of Singapore's legal education.

 

Mr Yuen will meet with the Chairperson of the Singapore Mediation Centre Justice Belinda Ang Saw Ean tomorrow to share views on the promotion and development of mediation.

 

He will also have a luncheon meeting with the President of the Law Society of Singapore Lok Vi Ming, and he will return to Hong Kong tomorrow evening.

Police have arrested a 42-year-old truck driver after his vehicle struck and killed a nine-year-old girl in Tuen Mun today.

 

The incident happened on Castle Peak Road near Lam Tei Main Street about 11.15am.

 

She had serious head injuries and was certified dead at scene.

 

The driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death.

 

Witnesses should call Police on 3661 3800.
