Customs officers have made a record seizure of 5,339kg of illicit tobacco worth $4 million, and with a duty potential of $2.23 million.

They examined two 40-foot transshipment containers declared as holding "hinge/drawer slideways" and "screw/drawer locks" bound for Macau, at Kwai Chung Customhouse Cargo Examination Compound yesterday.

They found the tobacco concealed in general cargo.
