The Monetary Authority today issued an alert about fraudulent website www.cibgltd.com/cn/, which resembles the official Bank of China (Hong Kong) and China CITIC Bank International website.

Both banks have clarified they have no connection with the bogus site.

It is operated by an alleged "China Citic Investment Bank Corporation", which claims it offers various banking services in Hong Kong. However, it is not authorised under the Banking Ordinance to conduct banking business or take deposits in Hong Kong, nor does it have the approval to establish a local representative office.

The authority has referred the case to Police.

Anyone who has provided personal information to the website or conducted financial transactions through it should call Police on 2860 5012.
