Police today charged a 41-year-old woman for the attempted murder of her son in Chai Wan.

 

Investigators believe she tried to kill herself and her nine-year-old son in a Hing Wah Estate flat on July 5, by burning charcoal.

 

They were rushed to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for medical treatment.

 

The case will be heard in the woman's absence in Eastern Magistracy on July 8.

Customs officers have arrested four people, seizing 1.13 million illicit cigarettes worth $3 million, and with a duty potential of $2 million.

 

Officers found three men transferring cigarettes from a cross-boundary container truck declared to be carrying an empty container to a cargo loading place onto a lorry yesterday.

 

The illicit cigarettes were found in a false compartment of the container truck.

 

The men and the driver were arrested.
