The Monetary Authority today issued an alert on a fraudulent email purporting to be sent from China CITIC Bank International.

 

The email asks customers to use an embedded hyperlink to connect to a fraudulent website and verify their account information by entering their Internet banking account's user name and password.

 

The fraudulent website looks similar to the bank's Internet banking logon webpage.

 

The bank has clarified that it has not sent these emails to its customers and has no connection with the fraudulent website. It has reported the case to Police.

 

Anyone who has provided personal information to the website, or has conducted any financial transactions through it, should call the bank at 2287 6767, or Police at 2860 5012.

Customs officers have seized smuggled goods worth $740,000 on Lantau Island.

 

They found nine men moving goods from a lorry onto a speedboat at the seashore of Sea Point Road near Sze Pak Wan about 8.30pm yesterday.

 

The suspects fled in the speedboat when the officers took action.

 

They seized 60 cartons of goods, which included 131kg of agilawood, 220kg of uncut crystal, 9kg of birds' nests, and 8,500 used mobile phones and parts.

 

Call the Customs' 24-hour hotline 2545 6182 to report suspected smuggling activities.
