Trade Minister Lutfi Summons Shopee Bosses to Lazada Cs, Why? March 19, 2021 No Comments
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of Trade Muhammad Lutfi will regulate trade discounts in e-commerce that have the potential to kill micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Currently, the regulation is under discussion, the target will be out in the near future. Lutfi has summoned high-ranking business actors e-commerce like Shopee to Lazada.
“So I am currently finalizing between ministries and I will recall the players again at the end of this month. Before fasting, God willing, it will be finished,” he said in a virtual press conference, Friday (19/3/21).
The players in question are actors in e-commerce, both from within the country and abroad. Lutfi has already held talks with the perpetrators regarding the draft regulation that is currently being drafted.
“We have spoken with many major stakeholders, I have spoken with the Indonesian E-commerce Association (idEA), have spoken with the General Chairperson of Bima Laga, Indonesia champion Tokopedia, Blibli, Bukalapak and Traveloka to come along. I have also spoken with International, Shopee and Lazada, so I have summoned everyone. We are talking openly, I have told them that the government wants to have a marketplace with an equal playing field, which means equality, “said Lutfi.
When the marketplace in Indonesia has equality, it creates fair competition and brings benefits. Lutfi’s focus points are in order to get an understanding of e-commerce. However, regarding the concrete steps of the regulation, including the potential for limiting discounts, Lutfi did not elaborate.
“The philosophy we will maintain is fair trade and beneficial trade, meaning that if he is unfair, I will regulate it, if he is not useful I will regulate it. If foreigners eat local, I will regulate, if local people injure MSME traders – her, I will arrange, “he said.
Previously, there were plans to limit discounts so that predatory pricing behavior or price play could be minimized. The culprit who did it was on e-commerce.
“That’s why traders too, they have also invested in Indonesia,” he explained.
