Nio is often referred to as the Chinese Tesla, because it is also focused on the production of more luxurious electric cars. He is currently confirming his plans to join Europe.
Chinese carmakers are increasingly starting to look around Europe. Although none has made a significant impact yet, more and more are still trying. Nio has recently confirmed its plans to expand to Europe. China ‘s Tesla is the first to start selling its cars in Norway, a paradise for electric cars.
Nio has been talking about global expansion, including European markets, for a long time . It is establishing its European headquarters in Norway, which will also be the first European market to enter the brand. It’s a logical step, given how the store is doing in Norway with the electric cars that Nio focuses on.
„ From the beginning, we have been a company with a global focus. We have been operating our design center in Munich since 2015, with a performance team in Oxford and a software team in San José in Silicon Valley. We now employ more than 9,000 people from 45 countries. ” says William Li, the company’s founder and CEO, about the brand’s plans.
Nio will be the first to sell a model in Europe ES8 , which is a flagship SUV with a range of about 500 kilometers according to the WLTP methodology. Nio will start collecting European pre-orders for the car in July, the first cars to customers in Europe will probably arrive in September. This will be followed in 2022 by a sedan Nio ET7 . „ We fully believe that in Europe, awareness of environmental protection and sustainability is much more important for consumers compared to any other continent in the world . “ Chuej Chang, the European vice president of the brand, recently explained in an interview with the British Autocar why Nio expects to expand to the old continent.
At the same time, Nio intends to offer full services in Europe as well. These are not only service and sales points, but also special Nio Power Swap stations. Instead of traditional recharging, the batteries will change in them, which should be useful when driving on long distances. This process should take only three minutes, which is a much shorter time than charging.
By the end of the year, Nio intends to open four such stations in Norway, with more to follow in 2022, which will initially serve five large cities. In addition, it also counts on its own network of superchargers.
The service will then work similarly to Tesla, the mechanic will be able to arrive at the place of the customer, or the car will be able to be picked up so that the owner does not have to go to the service with him himself. The sale will then primarily take place online, through a special application or the manufacturer’s website. Nevertheless, there will also be showrooms, located in interesting locations, the first of which will be located in the center of Oslo.
Nio presents itself as a pioneering manufacturer of premium electric cars. The company was founded in 2014, and wants to bet mainly on the most modern electronics, whether in terms of security assistants or digital services. It started selling its cars in China at the end of 2017, it just started the ES8 SUV. In addition to it and the ET7 sedan, it also offers the EC6 and SUV coupes on the Chinese domestic market SUV ES6 .
