The People’s Republic of China has donated 17 hospital beds worth $25,500 aiding Fiji with its current response to COVID-19.
The assistance is mobilised in appreciation for the work undertaken by the Fijian Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) to contain the COVID-19 cases.
It will enable MHMS to equip the newly-opened Nakasi Health Centre that has been converted into Fiji’s sixth hospital based isolation facility, and the third in the Central Division in addition to Navua Hospital and CWM Hospital.
In acknowledging this assistance, Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete thanked the People’s Republic of China for their support to Fiji’s Health sector.
He stated that assistance from Fiji’s international and regional partners was important because they provided additional resources and support for a cohesive and collective response to contain COVID-19.
Minister Waqainabete said working in solidarity at all levels was the key to winning the battle against coronavirus.
Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Qian Bo said that People’s Republic of China stood in solidarity with Fiji in the efforts to contain the COVID-19.
“During this unprecedented period of time, we appreciate the all-round timely measures taken by the Fijian Government, extraordinary efforts and hard work of Fiji’s Ministry of Health staff as well as all frontline workers across the country,” Mr Qian said.
He said he was hopeful that this assistance would add value to the tireless efforts of the many frontline workers in Fiji who were aspiring to safeguard the lives of every Fijian.
Ambassador Qian said that the People’s Republic of China was committed to providing further assistance to support Fiji’s response and economic recovery measures.
“China and Fiji are comprehensive strategic partners. China will continue to provide anti-pandemic supplies and is willing to share best anti-pandemic practices and send special medical teams to combat the virus with the Fijian side if necessary. The Embassy is in the process of procuring a batch of medical supplies and personal protective equipment to Fiji.”
The recent assistance from the People’s Republic of China in support of Fiji’s response to COVID-19 includes the provisions of humanitarian aid grant and through donations of personal protective equipment. More Stories
