Chevron (NYSE:CVX) has recently revived talks with Algeria to allow it to undertake energy exploration in the country, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.
The company has sent representatives in government relations, security and business development to the capital Algiers, some of whom have met Algerian officials, according to the report.
Algeria has the third largest recoverable shale resources in the world, with 707T cf, behind China and Argentina but bigger than the U.S.' 623T cf.
Chevron (CVX) stands out as a rare U.S. company aggressively competing for natural gas in an area dominated by European firms.
Chevron (CVX) said last month it made a "significant" gas discovery in the eastern Mediterranean that could contain 3.5T cf of gas.
