A man has been jailed four months by Kowloon City Magistracy for providing false registration information in the 2011 Yau Tsim Mong District Council Election.
He was found guilty of one count of knowingly making a false statement in voter registration.
On July 16, 2011, he submitted to the Registration & Electoral Office an application to register as an elector in the election. In the application he said a flat in Soy Street, Mong Kok, was his only or principal residential address.
The owners and occupants of the flat confirmed the defendant had never resided there, and they did not know him. He was found to be residing in Sha Tin.
Interviewed under caution by Independent Commission Against Corruption officers, he said he did not fill in the address in the voter registration form because a client said he did not need to. He also admitted he signed the form, and was told the purpose of the form was to support the candidacy of the client’s relative.
The defendant did not vote in the election.
