Hong Kong and German Police signed a Joint Understanding on Preventing & Combating International Crime & Developing Police Cooperation on September 20.
Commissioner of Police Andy Tsang and Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office President Jorg Ziercke signed the understanding during Mr Tsang's visit to the federal headquarters in Wiesbaden.
The pact aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in combating transnational crime, including drug and human trafficking, economic crime, cyber crime and money laundering.
It also sets out the framework for tackling transnational crime and also cements the partnership in capacity building and professional development.
Mr Tsang emphasised the importance of police cooperation across boundaries in meeting the challenges of the 21st century.
"No single police force can work on its own. This joint understanding marks the enhanced cooperation between the two forces. We are committed to assisting one another in pragmatic police work," Mr Tsang said.
Mr Ziercke stated that they admired the Hong Kong Police Force's achievement of maintaining a low crime rate, especially in terms of violent crime, and are dedicated to the exchange of expertise at all levels.
Mr Tsang also visited the Joint Counter Terrorism Centre, Joint Internet Centre, Serious & Organised Crime Division and State Security Division.
At the Federal Police Office, he paid a courtesy visit to its President, Dieter Romann.
Mr Tsang will return to Hong Kong tomorrow.
