The Environmental Protection Department recorded 39 pollution convictions in September.

Seven were for air pollution, two were for hazardous chemicals, 16 were for noise, one was under the ozone layer protection ordinance, nine were for improper waste disposal and four were for water pollution.

The month's heaviest fine – $100,000 – was imposed for using powered mechanical equipment not in accordance with permit conditions.
