Forty citizens who helped Police fight crime were commended at the Good Citizen Award Presentation Ceremony today.
One of the awardees received the Good Citizen of The Year Award, while others received the Good Citizen Award. They helped Police arrest 30 people for offences including telephone deception, theft, burglary, robbery, wounding, and indecent assault.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Tang Kam-moon said compared with many major cities, Hong Kong is a safe place with a low crime rate, thanks to the partnership between Police and the community.
Winner of the Good Citizen of The Year Award Kwong Ying-nui rescued a three-year-old girl in a case of domestic violence, and made a report to Police. She cared for the child until a social worker took over the case.
She was presented with a plaque and $3,000. All other award winners each received a certificate and a cheque for $2,000.
The award is presented twice a year. More than 3,800 people have been commended so far.
