The Department of Justice will form a cross-sector working group to study the proposals of the Law Reform Commission's Report on Class Actions, and advise the Government on how to take the matter forward.
The department today provided its interim response to the report, informing the commission of the Government's decision to form the working group.
The first meeting will be held in the first quarter of next year. The Government will map out the way forward in light of the recommendations to be made by the group.
The working group, chaired by the Solicitor General, will comprise members from the private sector, government bureaus and departments, the two legal professional bodies, the Consumer Council, and the Judiciary.
The commission published the Report on Class Actions on May 28, proposing a mechanism for class actions be adopted in Hong Kong.
