The Eastern Magistracy has sentenced a 29-year-old salesman to three months' jail for vote-rigging at the 2011 Yau Tsim Mong District Council Election (King's Park Constituency).

Magistrate Ho Wai-yang said a custodial sentence was deserved as vote-rigging is a serious offence.

The defendant voted in the election on November 6, 2011, after having given information to the electoral officer that he knew to be materially false or misleading. He had stated in his application for registration as an elector that a flat in Foo Tat Building, 50 Soy Street, Mongkok was his only or principal residential address.

The flat owner confirmed he did not know the defendant.
