Forty people who helped Police fight crime were commended at the Good Citizen Award presentation ceremony today.

Police Director of Personnel & Training Alfred Chau said development and progress in society has brought challenges to police work, and support from the public is paramount in combating crime.

The 34 men and six women helped in the arrest of more than 40 culprits for a variety of offences including theft, indecent assault, burglary, robbery and wounding.

Each awardee received a certificate and $2,000.

Mr Chau praised the recipients for their bravery and alertness, and for taking the initiative to help Police fight crime.
