Then you find a police web site dedicated to stopping online fraudsters. You&#8217;d be quite relieved, I&#8217;m sure, and if you&#8217;re particularly gullible, you might be persuaded to part with a small sum of money required as an enforcement fee.<\/p>\n<p>You can see where this is going:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Chinese police said in a statement Tuesday they had shut down a fake police service website and arrested four suspects.<\/p>\n<p>The website was named &#8220;China Internet supervision and investigation authority&#8221; and had the address www.wangjing110.com &#8211; a combination of the Chinese pronunciation of cyber police and the number of the well recognized police hotline.<\/p>\n<p>It pledged to help consumers who had &#8220;fallen victim to online fraud&#8221; recover their losses, but required them to pay service fees or deposits, according to the Ministry of Public Security(MPS) statement.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese law prohibits police to charge any fee for performing their duty in accepting or investigating cases.<\/p>\n<p>The police said the fake website simulated a real police service portal operated by the Shanghai municipal police bureau.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sonofabitch. First these poor folks are defrauded, and then they get virtually raped again by these guys posing as Net cops. Amazing. I don&#8217;t know about you, but the next time I see \u7f51 and \u5bdf in the same URL, I&#8217;m going to be on full alert.
