(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chinadaily.com.cn\/china\/2012-12\/14\/content_16017803.htm\"><em>Xinhua<\/em><\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We had a string of these back in 2010 that engendered a great deal of hand-wringing, navel gazing and ill-informed blog commentary &#8212; {cough cough}. It also led to a lot of new security policies, such as electronic surveillance, posting of security guards, and restrictions on the purchase of knives.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s hope this one, which again looks like the actions of a single mentally-disturbed man, is an isolated event. Perhaps China&#8217;s new mental health law will help to prevent future tragedies like this (hey, I&#8217;m an optimist).<\/p>\n<p><em>Note: If you want more details of this incident, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2012\/dec\/14\/chinese-children-knife-primary-school\">try the AP report<\/a>.
