Fifty-one Mainland visitors have been arrested for breaching their conditions of stay by being involved in suspected parallel goods trading in Sheung Shui.

 

Immigration and Police officers today arrested 10 men and nine women, all Mainland visitors aged 19 to 55, in Sheung Shui, at locations including Po Shek Wu Road, San Wan Road, Choi Yuen Road, Choi Fat Street, and Choi Fai Street. Snacks, nappies, and milk powder were seized.

 

Another 19 men and 13 women, all Mainland visitors aged 21 to 56, were also arrested at Advanced Technology Centre and Cambridge Plaza in Sheung Shui. Large amounts of tea leaves, nappies, and milk powder were seized.

The Environmental Protection Department recorded 30 pollution convictions in December.

 

Eleven were for air pollution, seven were for noise and 12 were for waste disposal.

 

The month’s heaviest fine – $25,000 – was imposed on a company which used powered mechanical equipment and carried out works without a valid construction noise permit.

Police have arrested a 64-year-old man over a fatal road accident in Tai Po.

 

The truck he was driving allegedly struck an 80-year-old man crossing the road outside Kwong Fuk Estate about 1.10pm.

 

The victim suffered multiple body injuries and was sent to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital where he later died.
