The disappearance of the weight-check queue at the Sheung Shui MTR Station and passengers’ good behaviour on trains reflect the effectiveness of measures the Government announced on Friday to ensure a stable supply of infant formula, Secretary for Security TK Lai says.
Speaking on a radio programme today, Mr Lai said there were fewer parallel good traders buying infant formula in bulk at pharmacies, and the supply of popular brands of baby formula is adequate.
He said the Immigration Department, with the aid of the parallel traders watchlist, has denied 2,600 people entry since September. More than 600 people have been refused entry in the past few days, he noted.
Mr Lai credited the Mainland Customs law enforcement enhancement for a drop in the number of parallel goods traders arrested, along with stepped up action against illegal employment in Sheung Shui.
He said lowering the East Rail Line passenger luggage weight limit from 32 kg to 23 kg will help reduce the chance of passenger injury in the compartments, adding the MTR Corporation has strengthened its by-laws inspection unit manpower along the East Rail Line.
