Robert Pang, Michael Hor and Christopher Gane have been appointed new members of the Law Reform Commission for three years starting tomorrow, the commission announced today.

Mr Pang is also a member of commission's Third Party Funding for Arbitration Sub-committee. He will replace former member Anderson Chow, the Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court.

Prof Hor and Prof Gane are Dean of the Faculty of Law in the University of Hong Kong and Chinese University of Hong Kong respectively. They will replace Michael Wilkinson and Peter Rhodes following their completion of two three-year terms as commission members.

Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen, who is also the commission’s Chairman, thanked the retiring members for their contributions and advice over the years.

In addition, Angela Lee has been reappointed as a member of the Commission for a second three-year term with effect from tomorrow.

A truck driver has been arrested for dangerous driving after a 48-year-old pedestrian was killed in Kwai Chung.

At about 11.24am, the truck was travelling southbound on Chun Pin Street and knocked the man down as he his truck turned left into Ta Chuen Ping Street.

The pedestrian was rushed to Yan Chai Hospital where he died at 12.56pm.

Police arrested the 51-year-old truck driver.

Witnesses can call Police on 3661 1300.

Immigration and Police officers arrested 12 Mainland workers in the New Territories for breaching their conditions of stay.

Eight men and four women aged 27 to 73 were arrested in Lok Ma Chau and Sheung Shui.

They are believed to have been involved in parallel goods trading of milk powder, food, skin-care products, mobile phones and other electronic products.

The Police website has been enhanced to enable easier access to Police information and now includes web accessibility elements for people with disabilities.

To provide smooth browsing with different devices, including tablet computers and mobile phones, the redesigned website can display content in the appropriate size after detecting the device used.

Police said the enhancement helps deliver its messages to the public and improve communications.

Police say during the Christmas holiday period, protesters continued to gather in Mong Kok, blocking roads and causing chaos, prompting their arrests.

Forty-nine people, aged 13 to 76, were arrested for disorderly conduct, criminal damage, and assaulting and obstructing a Police officer in Mong Kok in the past few days.

Police condemned the protesters for disregarding safety and public order.

Police will strengthen deployment during New Year’s Eve and the New Year holidays to safeguard public safety.

They call on people to express views in a peaceful, rational and lawful manner, and to stop the so-called “mobile occupation” movement.

Customs has prosecuted 12 mobile phone retailers for omitting required information from their sales invoices, resulting in 10 convictions and fines between $1,000 and $20,000.

A total of 19 retailers were found in the past two months to have breached the Trade Descriptions Ordinance by issuing sales invoices without the prescribed particulars of the products, or failing to retain copies of the invoices issued.

Under the law, suppliers of electronic products should issue invoices or receipts containing their full name and address, the products’ price, date of supply and information on repair or maintenance services. For mobile phone suppliers, the required information includes network or operating frequency, data transfer or network connectivity protocol.
