Police have expressed concern over the unlawful behaviour of protesters in a public order event in Tuen Mun recently, and that some netizens are planning to hold a similar event in Shatin tomorrow.

 

In a statement today, Police appeal to the people concerned to contact the force as soon as possible to discuss event details, to help them conduct the event in a lawful and orderly manner, while reducing inconvenience to other people.

 

Police urged people to comply with Hong Kong laws and maintain social order when expressing their views.

Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen said the the Government will continue to strive its best to garner lawmakers' support for the political reform package.

 

Speaking to media today, Mr Yuen said whether it is optimistic or pessimistic, the Government is still working towards the goal of getting the proposal passed by a two-thirds majority of the Legislative Council.

 

On the University of Hong Kong Student Union's decision to leave the Federation of Students, Mr Yuen said it would not affect the Government's consultation work. It will listen to the views of different people, including students.

Customs officers today distributed pamphlets to stall operators at Lunar New Year Fairs to remind them not to sell infringing goods.

 

Last November, Customs sent letters to successful bidders for Lunar New Year Fair stalls, reminding them to be cautious about the authenticity and origin of their goods. They were also reminded to check with the corresponding agents or representatives of trademark and copyright owners if in doubt.

 

Call the Customs hotline, 2545 6182, to report any selling of suspected infringing goods.

Customs officers have seized about 2.2kg of cocaine worth $2 million at the airport and arrested a 52-year-old man.

 

He arrived in Hong Kong from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Doha, Qatar yesterday.

 

Officers found the drugs in false compartments of the shoulder bag and rucksack he was carrying.

 

The man will be charged with drug trafficking and appear at Tsuen Wan Magistracy tomorrow.
