More than 600 participants from the Junior Police Call and other youth uniformed groups have attended the Police recruitment seminar at the Hong Kong Police College today to learn more about the force's revised physical fitness test.

The revised test comprises an 800-metre run, a 4 x 10m shuttle-run during which candidates need to pick up bean-bags from the ground, a vertical jump and handgrip tests.

Starting from October, the revised test will be launched on a pilot basis for 12 months.

The Police Recruitment Division said the new physical fitness requirements were commensurate with the force's daily duty needs.

The force invited Prof Hui Sai-chuen of the Department of Sports Science & Physical Education of the Chinese University of Hong Kong to review its physical fitness test, which has been in use for nearly 30 years.

After a series of scientific researches, the four test items were identified as the most relevant to the physical requirements of daily Police work.

The force aims to recruit 1,510 Police officers this year, including 190 Probationary Inspectors and 1,320 Recruit Police Constables. The next major Police recruitment event is the summer recruitment day to be held on July 25.
