The Department of Justice has urged Police to further investigate attacks on reporters who were covering last year’s Occupy movement, Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen said today.
Speaking after a Senior Counsel admission ceremony, Mr Yuen said that while a person arrested for the attacks had not yet been prosecuted, that did not mean the case had been closed.
Attack suspects had not yet had a day in court as there was insufficient evidence, he said.
While there were video clips of the attacks, he noted that the actions seen in them may have different interpretations, and the department must take the quality of the evidence and the reasons put forward by the defence into account.
He stressed that the case is not yet closed, as the video makes clear there was chaos which may have included the use of illegal force, and the Police must identify those involved.
