The Immigration Department confirmed today that among the four Hong Kong residents involved in a traffic accident in Yangmingshan, Taipei City, three were slightly injured, while one was unhurt.

 

The three injured people have been discharged from hospital and the department has assisted them according to their wishes.

 

The department will monitor developments and keep in contact with the Hong Kong Economic, Trade & Cultural Office in Taiwan and the injured to render practical assistance.

A 52-year-old man died in a traffic accident in Cheung Sha Wan this morning, after reportedly losing control of his vehicle.

 

At about 2.20am, the man was driving eastbound on Cheung Sha Wan Road. When he approached Butterfly Valley Road, his vehicle rammed into a bridge column and side-turned.

 

The driver was rushed to hospital in an unconscious state, but later died.

 

Witnesses should call Police on 2733 5200.

Customs officers have arrested 11 men, seizing 142 pirated video games and circumvention devices worth $60,000 in Sham Shui Po.

 

The arrestees, aged 24 to 38, were shop owners and sales staff.

 

Officers found some of the shops did not have a business registration and could change their company names easily, hindering investigations and putting consumer rights at risk.

 

The arrests were made on August 26.

 

The Copyright Ordinance prohibits the selling circumvention devices or pirated video games. The maximum penalty is four years’ jail.

Customs officers have arrested a 57-year-old man after finding more than 2kg of cocaine worth $2.2 million in false compartments of a computer bag he was carrying at the airport.

 

He arrived in Hong Kong from Rio de Janeiro via Dubai on August 26.

 

He will face drug trafficking charges at Tsuen Wan Magistracy tomorrow.

Customs officers have arrested a beauty parlour owner and two beauticians for contravening the Trade Descriptions Ordinance in the sale of beauty services to a customer.

 

The beautician used an inferior model of a device to provide beauty treatment, instead of the device it claimed.

 

Officers yesterday arrested the 32-year-old parlour owner and two beauticians, aged 28 and 41. All were granted bail.

 

The department's Unfair Trade Practice Investigation Division reminded beauty service traders and beauticians to heed the law and state all information to consumers in a clear and accurate manner.
