Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen today met with representatives of the Ministry of Justice and several trade and arbitration organisations in Beijing.

Mr Yuen met Vice Minister of Justice Zhao Dacheng to discuss promoting the "One Belt, One Road" development strategy by Hong Kong's legal and arbitration sectors.

Mr Yuen said these sectors have a wealth of experience in trade and investment laws as well as international trade law, adding they can provide professional legal and dispute resolution services in making trade and economic ties with countries in the "One Belt, One Road" zone.

Mr Yuen then met Vice-Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Yin Zonghua, and representatives of the China International Economic & Trade Arbitration Commission and the China Maritime Arbitration Commission.

He also met Beijing Arbitration Commission representatives.

He then signed an arrangement with Dean of the Renmin University of China Law School Prof Han Dayuan on legal exchanges and co-operation between the institute and the Department of Justice.

After arriving in Beijing yesterday, Mr Yuen met Supreme People's Court Vice-President Shen Deyong and attended the opening of a Mainland summer internship programme for Hong Kong law students.

Customs officers have arrested four wedding planners for applying false trade descriptions.

The Customs & Excise Department recently received complaints against two wedding service companies.

In one case the staff allegedly claimed banquet food would be cooked at the wedding venue. Upon receiving a deposit from the complainant, the staff said the food would be provided by a catering delivery service. The cost of the banquet was more than $240,000.

In the other case the wedding ceremony was to be held at a distinctive building. However, it was found to be an illegal structure set for demolition. The wedding service was valued at more than $50,000.

Three women and a man, aged 31 to 42, were arrested and released on bail as the investigation continues.

Two Hong Kong residents died in an explosion in Bangkok last night, the Immigration Department has confirmed.

The department has contacted their families and provided advice and assistance.

Six other Hong Kong residents injured in the incident have sought help.They were sent to local hospitals and one was discharged after treatment.

The Immigration Department has sent three officers to Thailand this morning to visit and assist the injured, the families and other Hong Kong residents there.

It will keep in contact with the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in Hong Kong, the Embassy, the injured and their families to closely monitor the situation and provide assistance.

The department has also sent messages through the Registration of Outbound Travel Information service to advise residents there to contact the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit.

Hong Kong residents travelling abroad who need assistance may call the 24-hour hotline, (852) 1868.

The Government has raised the outbound travel alert for Bangkok to red following a bomb explosion close to the town centre last night.

The alert for other parts of Thailand remains at amber.

Hong Kong people should avoid non-essential travel to Bangkok, while those already there should pay attention to announcements by local authorities, attend to their personal safety and avoid areas affected by the blast.

The Security Bureau is monitoring the situation and will issue updates through the media and its website.
