Ivory seized at airport

Customs officers seized around 15 kilogrammes of suspected ivory cut pieces and products worth about $150,000 and arrested a man at the airport today.

 

Officers stopped the 42-year-old passenger who had arrived from Abuja, Nigeria via Dubai, United Arab Emirates and found the ivory hidden in a tailor-made vest in his hand baggage.

 

Importing endangered species without a licence is liable to a maximum fine of $100,000 and one-year imprisonment under the Protection of Endangered Species of Animals & Plants Ordinance.
