Thirty-eight probationary inspectors and 209 recruit constables graduated from the Police College today.
 

Independent Police Complaints Council Chairman Larry Kwok inspected the passing-out parade, saying Police officers’ efforts will win people’s recognition as long as they discharge their duties and serve the community with fairness, impartiality and legality.

He said Hong Kong is a very safe city with one of the lowest crime rates in the world, noting it was not only due to Hong Kong citizens’ law-abiding culture, but also because of Police dedication, professionalism, integrity and sense of responsibility.

Noting the graduates may encounter tough situations when  performing their duties, he urged them to uphold the Force Value of “fairness, impartiality and compassion in all our dealings”, and to be patient, understanding and empathetic when enforcing the law.

Commissioner for Police Stephen Lo has appealed to people planning processions and assemblies for the first anniversary of the Occupy Movement to notify Police early of their activities, saying officers will be deployed to ensure public order and safety during the events.

Speaking to reporters today, he said Police have received several applications for processions and meetings to be held on September 28.

He urged other people planning events to contact Police early to declare timings, participant numbers and routes so ensure sufficient officers can be deployed to keep the events orderly and peaceful.

On telephone scams, Mr Lo said the reported scam figure for the first 10 days of this month is 15 compared to 147 for the whole of August.

He attributed this to intensive Police publicity, intelligence exchange with the Mainland law-enforcement bureaus and public co-operation.
